Class Project

Storm to Shade

A tree planting fundraiser in Tempe
by Tempe Leadership Class XLI

WE DID IT!

With the support of our community, we raised $22,743, surpassing our fundraising goal of $20,000. In spring 2026, we successfully completed our project by planting 18 trees at Mitchell Park and 15 trees at Jaycee Park. We are deeply grateful to everyone who contributed to making this project possible.

ABOUT

Our Project

When the recent microburst swept through Tempe, our community’s landscape changed overnight. Streets once lined with leafy canopies now stand bare. Parks that offered shade and solace now feel exposed.

Storm to Shade was a community-driven fundraiser dedicated to replanting trees across our parks, neighborhoods and shared spaces. Every donation helped turn devastation into renewal — transforming the scars of the storm into new roots, new growth and new shade for generations to come.

Project Goals

Growing Tempe

We successfully completed our project in collaboration with the City of Tempe’s Sustainability Division and Urban Forester, resulting in the planting of 33 trees across Jaycee and Mitchell Parks
